GRIPPLE PLUS wire connector
A ceramic-roller wire joiner that grips and tensions plain or high-tensile wire in one fitting, and can be re-tensioned in later years.

Joining high-tensile wire by hand is a skill, and a badly tied knot is both a weak point and the place a fence line eventually breaks. It also has to be cut out and redone every time the wire needs re-tensioning. The Gripple Plus does both jobs in one body. Wire is pushed into each end and the internal rollers lock against it, so the join holds without knotting, and a setting tool then draws the wire through to bring the line up to tension. The rollers are high-grade ceramic rather than steel, which is what keeps the mechanism working after years of moisture rather than seizing with rust. It is made in three sizes: small for 1.40 to 2.20 mm wire at a maximum working load of 300 kg, medium for 2.00 to 3.25 mm at 400 kg, and large for 3.20 to 4.20 mm at 600 kg. Match the size to the wire, because a joiner run at the extreme of its range will hold but is gripping on less than it should be. The useful part comes later. A fence tensioned this spring can be pulled up again next spring through the same fitting, without cutting anything out, so the annual walk-and-tighten becomes something you can actually do rather than something you plan to do.
