Netting stands or falls on the posts. A single-prong spike turns in sandy or worked ground the moment the net takes a sideways pull, and a leaning net is a net that shorts on grass along the bottom. This roll is 90 cm high with seven electrifiable horizontal strands over 50 m, on sturdy plastic posts with galvanized bottom tips and double prongs, which give the post something to resist twisting against. Each post carries a stainless-steel clip so rolls join to each other without splicing. The knots are welded rather than tied, so the vertical struts hold their spacing instead of sliding down the net after a season of being rolled and unrolled. Conductor construction is three 0.20 mm stainless-steel filaments per horizontal strand, with the top strand carrying five stainless wires plus a tin-plated copper conductor to move current the length of the roll with less drop. The bottom strand is not electrified so it can sit on the ground without shorting. Keep the line under the net clipped or grazed short. Net is far more sensitive to vegetation contact than a wire fence, and a run that reads well on a bare line will read much lower after a week of growth. Roll it up dry where you can, and pull it out of the ground rather than dragging it, since a bent prong never seats the same way again.
