An in-line strainer is only as good as what you turn it with. A pair of pliers on the ratchet body will move a slack wire, and it will also round off the lugs and leave you unable to take the last turn on the wire that actually needs it. This arm is galvanized steel and made to fit the Corral in-line strainer. It gives you the length to wind a run up properly and to hold the ratchet steady while the pawl seats, which is the moment most strainers get damaged. One arm does a whole fence. Wind the strainers in stages, moving along the line and taking a little from each one rather than all of it from the nearest, so the tension ends up even instead of concentrated at one end. Steel wire needs re-tensioning after the first year and after any hard winter. Leaving the arm hanging on a corner post means the job gets done when you notice the sag rather than the next time you happen to have the right tool in the truck.
