A fence carries a different load in July than it does in October. Running full output all winter on a bare line wastes battery, and running a small unit all summer means the far end sits low once the grass is up. A switchable output covers both without a second energiser. On high the Super NA 500 stores 5.0 joules, peaks at 10,300 volts and holds 6,500 volts into a 500 ohm load, rated at 150 km of line in theory. Dropped to low it stores 1.7 joules, peaks at 9,300 volts and still holds 6,200 volts at 500 ohms, rated at 60 km. Both modes run from 110 volt mains or a 12 volt battery, and a 25 watt solar module can charge the battery on a remote setup. On the control side there is a fence monitoring LED, a battery warning indicator, a 1-0 switch, microprocessor control with an energy-saving mode, deep discharge protection on 12 volt and a plug connector with a screw fuse. Earthing has to match the output. At five joules, three rods is a starting point rather than a finish. Add rods until the earth system reads low with the fence deliberately shorted, and keep the earth bank well clear of any buried utility or building ground.
