The step up from the small solar units is not just output. It is reserve. The S15 pairs a 15 W panel with an 18 Ah battery, which is what carries a fence through a stretch of overcast weather instead of dropping out on day three. In a country that can go a week without proper sun in October, that reserve is the point. Output is 1.5 joules, 2.3 joules stored, reading about 10,000 volts unloaded and 4,800 volts into 500 ohms. That handles a real pasture fence rather than a house paddock. A high, low and off switch lets you dial it back through the shoulder seasons and save battery. It is 12.8 kg, about 28 lb, in a water-tight case, and it comes with a ground and mount spike, leads and a 115 V charger with battery clips. Ground rods are extra, and they are not optional. The single most common cause of a weak solar fence is not enough rod in the ground. Face the panel south, keep it clear of snow and grass, and test the fence rather than trusting the indicator light.
