CORRAL rubber electric hoist
An elastic 7 mm gate rope with three stainless-steel conductors running through it, so a gateway stays live and stretches instead of snapping.
Details
Gateways take more abuse than any other part of a fence. A rigid handle and a length of tape get caught by a hip, a tractor mirror or a swinging gate, and either the tape tears or the insulator pulls out of the post. An elastic gate rope absorbs that instead of transmitting it. The core is a 7 mm elastic rope carrying three 0.30 mm stainless-steel conductors, and it will stretch to roughly twice its relaxed length before it reaches the end of its travel. The outer braid is made so tail hair does not work its way into the lay, which matters at a gap horses crowd through. Set it up so the rope sits at close to its relaxed length when the gate is closed and let the stretch do the work at the far end. Anchor both ends to insulated hardware rather than straight to a post staple, and take the current across the gap with a buried cable if you want the fence live on both sides when the gate is open. Elastic rope loses tension over years of sun and cycling. Check the recoil each spring and shorten the run at the anchor if it has gone slack rather than trying to re-tension it under load.
