Details
Reels lead a hard life. They get wound in the cold, dropped on gravel, hung off a post through a summer of sun and then left in the shop until somebody needs them in a hurry. The drum takes the abuse, and when it splits there is usually nothing wrong with the rest of the reel. This spool fits the Super Reel, which is rated for about 1,000 m of 3 mm wire, 500 m of 6 mm rope or 600 m of 10 mm tape. Swapping the drum takes a couple of minutes and gets a working reel back on the fence line the same day. The other use is keeping a spare loaded. Wind one with polywire for temporary paddocks and one with rope for the horse pen, then change them over at the fence instead of unwinding and rewinding in the yard. Wind under light, even tension so the line pays out cleanly, do not pack the drum solid, and keep loaded spares out of the sun between seasons.
