The euro reel is the light, everyday reel that ends up doing most of the work on a place. Carried on the quad, thrown in the truck box, dropped a few times a season. The drum is the part that cracks first, usually at the flange, usually in the cold. A replacement spool puts the reel back in service for a fraction of the cost of a new one. It also gives you the option of running more than one conductor off the same handle. Keep a second drum wound with a different line and swap them at the post rather than spending twenty minutes winding one off to put another on. Fitting takes a minute and no tools worth mentioning. Wind the line back on under light, even tension so it feeds out without digging into itself, and stop before the drum is packed hard. An overfilled spool binds and takes the fun out of rolling up a fence in a wind. Keep spares out of direct sunlight, which ages the plastic faster than the cold does.
