Details
The S2 is the small unit in the solar range. Light, portable, meant for short runs and temporary paddocks. It runs on a 4 Ah battery, and in a package that size the battery is doing all the work overnight with only a small panel to refill it during the day. That makes the battery the wear item. A few seasons of cycling, or one winter left flat in the shop, and it will not carry the fence through the night any more. The tell is a unit that clicks along fine in the afternoon and is dead quiet at sunrise. Fitting is straightforward. Switch the unit off, note the polarity, clean the terminals and connect the new cell. Because the S2 gets carried around more than the bigger units, it is worth checking the leads for chafing at the same time. And if the energizer is coming off the fence for winter, charge the battery before it goes on the shelf. Cold storage at a low state of charge is what kills these.
