A solar energizer is only as good as the battery inside it. The panel tops the battery up through the day. The battery is what runs the fence overnight, through a week of cloud, and through the short days when there is frost on the glass by four in the afternoon. When a fence reads fine at noon and poor at dawn, the battery is usually the reason. This is the 12 volt, 12 Ah size that fits the Sun Power S10. Batteries in solar units wear out on a schedule, a few seasons of daily cycling, faster if the unit spent a winter sitting discharged. Replacing it puts the original run time back rather than leaving you second guessing the fence. Swap it with the unit switched off, keep the terminals clean and tight, and get the polarity right. If you are pulling the energizer for winter, charge the battery fully before it goes on the shelf and top it up mid-winter. A flat battery left cold is a battery you will be replacing again next year.
