The longer roll earns its keep on perimeter work. Four hundred metres is about 1,312 ft, so a long side of a quarter section goes up without a single splice in it, and every splice you avoid is one less place for voltage to disappear and one less thing to check after a windstorm. Electrically it is the same wire as the shorter roll. Six 0.30 mm TriCOND conductors at 0.30 ohms per metre, rated for fences up to 6,000 m behind a suitable energizer. The 100 kg breaking load, about 220 lb, is a poly line rating. It is meant to hold a hot wire in place, not to take a heavy pull. It will want a full sized reel to wind back onto. Red and white reads well year round here, which is a genuine consideration when a fence sits under snow for five months. Tension it moderately, allow for the movement that comes with a sixty degree annual swing, and join with connectors rather than knots.
