Details
Rope is what most horse people end up on, and this is the reason. At 6 mm, roughly a quarter inch, it is thick enough to see clearly, thick enough to grip when you are tensioning it, and it does not cut the way a bare wire does. The breaking load is 350 kg, about 772 lb, so it takes a knock without parting. Six TriCOND conductors at 0.30 mm give it 0.31 ohms per metre. That is respectable for a rope of this size and enough to carry a fence of real length off a decent energizer. White with a red stripe stays visible in snow, in fog and against a dark treeline. Two hundred metres is 656 ft, enough for a paddock or a good stretch of perimeter. Rope moves with temperature more than people expect. A run set tight in July will be slack in January and drum tight again in a cold snap. Tension it moderately, use an equalising spring at the end, and join it with rope connectors rather than knots.
