Round posts are a problem for mounting anything. A flat wooden post takes a screw wherever you want one. A steel pipe or a round treated post gives you nothing to bite into. This ring clamps around the post and gives you a fixing point. It suits posts from 35 to 70 mm in diameter, roughly 1 3/8 to 2 3/4 inches, which covers most steel pipe posts, round treated posts and the pole stock used in yard and corral construction. It goes on without drilling the post, which matters if the post is galvanized and you would rather not open up a hole for rust to start in. The everyday jobs are mounting an energizer, a switch, a warning sign or an insulator bracket somewhere it needs to be, rather than somewhere a wooden post happens to already be. Set it at a height that clears the snow. A switch or an energizer mounted at knee height in September is under a drift in January, and a fence you cannot reach the controls of is a fence that stays exactly how you left it. Snug the clamp properly, because frost movement works on anything left loose.
