CORRAL gear-toothed wire tensioner
A ratcheting wire tensioner with a toothed gear that lets you take up slack in a fence line and hold it where you put it.

A wire fence does not stay tight. Temperature swings between minus thirty and plus thirty move a wire a long way, frost lifts posts, and animals leaning on a line stretch it. A tensioner is how you get that tension back without pulling the whole run apart. The gear-toothed design is what makes it hold. You wind the tensioner to draw the slack in, and the teeth lock against a pawl so the line cannot creep back out under load. That is the difference between a tensioner and a twist. A twisted joint slowly gives, a ratcheted one does not. Fit them at install time, not after the fence has sagged. On a long run the practical layout is one tensioner per straight stretch between corner assemblies, somewhere you can actually get at with a tool without wading through bush. Then walk each line once in spring after the ground has settled from the thaw, and once in fall before freeze-up, giving each one a couple of clicks as needed. Ten minutes a season is what keeps a fence looking after itself instead of needing a rebuild.
