Sixty centimetres, about two feet, with a crocodile clip on both ends. It is the simplest thing in the fencing aisle and one of the most used, because almost every fence problem gets solved by connecting two things together for a minute to see what happens. The common jobs are jumping across a break while you decide what to do about it, bridging a gate opening so the far side of the run stays live, hooking a portable energizer onto a temporary line, or bonding a section of fence to the main line during a rotation. Clip on, clip off, no tools and no cutting. Keep one in the fencing bag and another in the truck. On a cold day, being able to make a working connection in ten seconds rather than crimping a terminal with numb hands is the difference between fixing a fence now and fixing it on the weekend. Just do not let a crocodile clip become a permanent connection. The spring loses tension over a winter, and a joint that is only sort of connected is worse than one that is plainly broken, because nobody goes looking for it.
