It's sold as a mortar tub and it does mix mortar, but on most yards it spends its life doing other things. Thirty-six by twenty-four inches and eight deep gives you a big flat working area — good for mixing concrete patch or grout, and just as good for soaking a batch of hay cubes, washing tack, bathing a dog, or icing down drinks at branding. The proportions are what make it useful. Wide and shallow means you can get a hoe or a shovel into it and actually turn material over, and it means you can tip it out without needing a second pair of hands. It also stores flat against a wall instead of eating floor space. Roughly twenty-six gallons of capacity, moulded in one piece with no seams and no metal, so nothing rusts and nothing leaks at a joint. Poly flexes rather than cracking, which is what lets it survive being left outdoors through a freeze — the ice slab comes out when you flex the wall, instead of taking the tub with it.
