Details
Scotts Weed B Gon MAX Ready-To-Use Weed Control is a DOMESTIC-class selective herbicide registered by Health Canada under PCP Reg. No. 29694 to Scotts Canada Ltd. Its active ingredient is iron (present as FeHEDTA) at 0.25%, in a ready-to-use solution sprayed straight from the trigger bottle: "Do not dilute." The label covers containers from 100 mL to 1 L; this listing is the 1 L bottle. Its only active ingredient is iron, a different chemistry from the Killex and Roundup products. What the label covers: "For use on lawn turf consisting of one or more of Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, and fescue (tall fescue, chewing fescue, and/or creeping fescue) for control or suppression of broadleaf weeds." The label's weed list: dandelion, English daisy, false dandelion, white clover, black medic, bull thistle, Canada thistle (under 15 cm tall), common chickweed, creeping buttercup, slender speedwell, narrow-leaved plantain, broad-leaved plantain (suppression only), dove's-foot geranium, lawn burweed, moss and algae. How to apply, from the label: "SHAKE WELL BEFORE USING. Do not dilute. Squeeze trigger to operate." "Spray weeds using a coarse nozzle setting to reduce drift until foliage is thoroughly wetted, just to the point of runoff." "Repeat treatment every three to four weeks if necessary, up to a maximum of 4 applications per area per year." Label limits, as printed: "Do not apply to bentgrass." "Do not apply to newly seeded areas until four or more weeks after grass seedlings have emerged." "Avoid spraying desirable plants. Any desirable plants or structures accidentally contacted should be rinsed immediately with water." "Do not apply if rainfall is expected within 3 hours of application." "Do not irrigate within 3 hours of application." The label also says to water the lawn well before treating, not to treat drought-stressed grass, and not to apply when the daytime temperature will exceed 30 °C. What to expect, from the label: "Susceptible weeds, moss or algae will turn brown or black." It also says grass blades can darken for a few days to weeks after treatment and that the product may stain thatch. Precautions, as printed: "CAUTION: KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Causes slight eye irritation." "Avoid contact with skin or clothing." "Do not re-enter or allow re-entry into treated areas until the spray is dried." "Prolonged or frequently repeated skin contact may cause allergic reactions in some individuals." The front panel reads "POTENTIAL SKIN SENSITIZER". First aid is printed on the label; take the container with you when seeking medical attention. Storage: "Protect from freezing." "To prevent contamination store this product away from food or feed." Disposal: "Do not reuse empty container. Dispose of empty container with household garbage." Where to buy: Pipestone Farm Supply lists Scotts Weed B Gon MAX Ready-To-Use Weed Control 1 L in store in Millet, Alberta (between Leduc and Wetaskiwin, south of Edmonton) and online. The same registration family includes the Ready-To-Use with Quick Connect sprayer (PCP 29695); for larger lawns, the Weed B Gon MAX Weed Control Concentrate for Lawns (PCP 33359, iron 2.0%) is mixed in a sprayer. Pesticides are regulated by Health Canada; read and follow the label before every use.
