Details
Scotts EZMELT Ice Melter is a granular ice melter for driveways, sidewalks and steps. This is the 4.5 kg shaker jug; Scotts Canada lists EZMELT in a 4.5 kg (9.9 lb) shaker jug "ideal for fast, easy application" and in 10 kg (22 lb) and 20 kg (44 lb) bags "with no rock or no sand filters." From the Scotts Canada product page: EZMELT "melts ice down to -31°C," and its key ingredient is calcium chloride, "which acts quickly to generate heat and melt ice on contact," alongside what Scotts calls its Heat Lock Technology. Scotts' directions: "apply preventatively before or soon after snowfall begins to prevent excessive ice buildup. If snow is deeper than 5 cm (2 inches) plow or shovel surface before applying product." Then "evenly spread the Scotts EZMELT Ice Melter granules over the icy surface," "allow the ice melter to work into the surface for 15-30 minutes, or until the ice begins to melt," and "reapply the product if necessary, especially during heavy snowfall or freezing conditions." Scotts adds that the product "should be used sparingly." The shaker jug spreads by hand; for larger driveways the 10 kg bag and a Scotts Whirl hand spreader give an even spread. Surfaces and plants, from Scotts' EZMELT how-to page (scottsmiraclegro.com/en-ca, viewed October 2026): "As with all ice melters, this product should not be used on questionable surfaces including stone, brick, wood, pre-cast concrete, pre-cast masonry, poor quality concrete, damaged concrete or concrete that is less than one year old." Scotts adds: "Concrete surfaces need to be good quality, air-entrained, properly cured and designed for exposure to winter weather conditions and deicing agents." and "Consult a concrete professional if you are unsure of the age, quality and curing of your surface." Like all deicer products, Scotts says, it "could harm vegetation if applied at an excessive rate." Where to buy Scotts EZMELT in Alberta: Pipestone Farm Supply sells the 4.5 kg jug and the 10 kg bag from its store in Millet, Alberta (between Leduc and Wetaskiwin, south of Edmonton) and ships Canada-wide.
