A four-pack of reusable W.H.Y. traps. The name is the point: wasps, hornets and yellowjackets all get caught by the same unit, because it uses multiple chambers and entry points aimed at insects that enter differently. Paper wasps come up from underneath, yellowjackets and hornets go in the top, and the design accounts for both instead of assuming every stinging insect behaves the same way. Unlike a disposable bag, this one you keep. When it fills you empty it, rinse it, drop in a fresh attractant cartridge and hang it again. Over a few seasons that works out cheaper than buying bags, and there is no plastic bag in the garbage every two weeks. The trade-off is that you have to handle a trap full of dead wasps, which is a job for a calm morning, gloves and a trap that has been closed up long enough that nothing inside is still alive. Attractant cartridges are consumables and are sold separately — the trap does nothing without one, so make sure you have refills on hand before wasp season starts. Hang them 20 to 30 feet from the door, deck or feed area you are protecting rather than right beside it, and get them out early in spring when the queens are flying. Early trapping does more good than anything you hang in late summer. No insecticide involved, which makes these workable in yards, around livestock and near gardens.
