Running an oil-based product through a big cylinder compounds the problem. There is more of it, it sits in the barrel longer between fills, and a clear cylinder suffers accordingly. Specifying the polypropylene barrel at 50 mL is more about protecting the tool than about anything you will notice on the day. The gun is the 50 mL semi-automatic repeater on a plastic frame. Dose adjusts from 1 mL to 50 mL in 1 mL increments, set against the arrow on the top of the instrument, and the whole thing is light enough to be worked one-handed for longer than a metal-bodied equivalent. It fills through the tip, so there is no feed line running back to a bottle on your belt. Polypropylene is opaque next to the Lexan barrel option, so you lose the ability to see how much is left at a glance. Most people running oil-based product accept that and simply refill on a count. If your work is entirely aqueous and you want to watch the level, the Lexan version is the better fit. Maintenance is the usual routine: hot soapy water through the barrel, clean warm rinse, then cylinder off and lubricant onto the O-ring and moving parts. Barrel and O-ring spares are specific to the 50 mL size and will not fit a 25 mL gun. Talk to your veterinarian about which products suit the instrument.
