Details
On a 50ml applicator the push rod does a long stroke under real load, hundreds of times a day. It drives the piston down the cylinder, and its graduations are what the dose adjustor is set against: anticlockwise to decrease, clockwise to increase. Once the rod is bent, scored or the markings have worn off, you have lost both the smooth stroke and the reference you were dosing to. This assembly replaces the rod on the 50ml unit. If the trigger has gone gritty, the stroke feels uneven, or the gun has been dropped, this is usually the part to look at first alongside the seals. Grit and damp are what kill push rods. Flush the applicator and feed tube with clean water at the end of every session by working the trigger until it runs clear, air dry it by operating the trigger repeatedly, and lubricate the piston and its washer as the manufacturer directs before storing. Keep the gun somewhere dry and above freezing over winter. When the new rod is in, run a few doses into a graduated cylinder and confirm the setting and the delivered volume actually match.
