Some products are hard on a barrel. Oil-based formulations in particular can cloud and craze a standard clear cylinder over a season, and once a barrel has gone milky you cannot read the level in it and you are into a rebuild. The polypropylene barrel exists to solve that specific problem. This is the 25 mL semi-automatic repeater on a plastic frame, noticeably lighter in the hand than the metal version over a long run. The dose adjuster covers 0.5 mL to 25 mL in 0.5 mL steps, set against the arrow on top of the gun, and it fills through the tip from an inverted bottle rather than off a feed line. The trade with polypropylene is visibility. It is not as clear as the Lexan barrel, so watching the level in the cylinder is harder, but it holds up to chemistry that would spoil a clear barrel. If everything you run is a straightforward aqueous product, the Lexan-barrelled version of the same gun is easier to live with. If oil-based products are in the mix, take this one. Wash it out with hot soapy water and rinse after every use, then unscrew the cylinder and put a small amount of lubricant on the O-ring and the moving parts. Replacement barrels are sold separately in both standard and oil-base specifications, matched to the 25 mL size. Product suitability is a question for your veterinarian and the label.
