Details
A repeater or drencher that has just been flushed with hot water and detergent is clean and completely dry inside, which is exactly when the O-ring starts to drag and tear. This is the lubricant the manufacturer specifies for their own instruments. The maintenance routine printed on the leaflets is the same across most of the range: flush the gun through with warm soapy water, rinse with clean water, then unscrew the cylinder and put a small amount onto the O-ring before putting a few drops on the other moving parts. On the drenchers the method is slightly different. You dip the tapered end of the push rod and piston into a small container of it and work the lever a few times to draw it up into the cylinder. Either way it takes under a minute, and it is what keeps seals from becoming an annual replacement. It is a consumable that belongs in the same box as the gun. Keep it there and get into the habit of reaching for it as the last step of the wash rather than the first step of the next job.
