Not every job wants an 18 gauge. Smaller stock, thinner-bodied product and any situation where you would rather leave a smaller hole all point at something finer, and a 20 gauge is where most operations land for that work. The bore is 20 gauge and the shaft is 25 mm (1 in), long enough to get past hide and reach where you are aiming without being unwieldy. They come sterile with an aluminum hub and a colour-coded cap, a hundred to the box, which is enough to get through a decent day of processing without rationing. Finer needles bend more easily than heavy ones, so the aluminum hub earns its keep here. It gives you something solid to grip when seating the needle and it will not round off the way a soft plastic hub does after a few changes. These are single-use and disposable, with nothing to service and nothing to sharpen. Match gauge and length to the animal and to what your veterinarian and the product label tell you, and put every used one straight into a sharps container.
