Needles get reused because the box is empty, not because anyone thinks it is a good idea. A point that has been through a dozen hides pushes rather than cuts, the animal feels it, and the next one in the chute is already backing up. Buying a hundred at a time is the cheapest way to stop that habit. These are 18 gauge with a 19 mm (3/4 in) shaft and an aluminum hub, supplied sterile and packed a hundred to the box. The 18 gauge bore is the general-purpose size for cattle and larger stock, and the shorter 19 mm length suits sites where you do not want to be driving a long needle in. Each cap is colour-coded by gauge, which matters when there are two or three boxes open on the tailgate. The aluminum hub is the reason these hold up better than an all-plastic hub. It grips the luer fitting on a syringe or repeater firmly and does not distort when you nip it up with pliers, so the needle stays put instead of backing off part-way through a run. They are a consumable, not a rebuild part. Use one and put it in a sharps container. Which gauge, which length and which site are right for the animal and the product in your hand is a question for your veterinarian and the product label.
