The half inch of extra length is the whole point. On cows carrying real condition, hide and cover sit deeper than they do on a yearling, and a one inch needle can stop short of where you intended. An inch and a half gets there. On lighter cattle it is more needle than the job asks for, and there is no prize for using it. Aluminum hub, 100 to the box, disposable. The lighter hub keeps the balance sensible on the end of an injector, which matters when the gun already has a bottle hanging off it. Long needles are the ones that bend. Every bit of extra shaft is extra leverage the moment a cow drops or swings, and once a needle has taken a set it is finished, no matter how straight you get it looking on the rail. Get the head caught and the body squeezed before you go near her, work at a pace the crew can actually keep, and slow down in the cold when hide is tight and cattle are jumpy. Change needles regularly, bin every used one in a sharps container, and leave anything to do with the product itself to your veterinarian or the label.
