Details
Mad Barn w-3 Oil is a liquid fat supplement for horses, made by Mad Barn Inc. of Petersburg, Ontario. This listing is the 20 L jug. Active ingredients on the label, per 100 mL: a proprietary blend of soybean, flax and DHA oil, 99 mL; DHA (minimum) 1,500 mg; Vitamin E (d-alpha-tocopherol) 1,000 mg. Ingredients, as listed: soybean oil, flax oil, heterotrophic algae (DHA oil), d-alpha-tocopherol (natural vitamin E) and flavour. Excipient ingredient: lecithin. Directions for use, quoted from the label: "Administer orally top dressed on feed. Product should be introduced gradually and increased as necessary. Total dietary fat should not exceed 8% for equine diets." The label gives two feeding rates: "Maintenance: 100 mL per day per 500 kg (1100 lb) of body weight" and "Weight Management: 200 mL per day per 500 kg (1100 lb) of body weight." At 100 mL a day for a 500 kg horse, a 20 L jug is about 200 days; at 200 mL, half that. Cautions, quoted from the label: "Do not use in animals with bleeding disorders, unless directed by a veterinarian." Storage, quoted: "Store inside away from heat, sparks and flame. Protect from freezing temperatures." In an Alberta winter the second line is the one to plan for: the jug should not live in an unheated barn. Mad Barn's disclaimer: "These statements have not been evaluated by Health Canada or the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease." Where to buy: Pipestone Farm Supply lists this product in Millet, Alberta (between Leduc and Wetaskiwin, south of Edmonton), with free in-store pickup and Canada-wide shipping. Set the feeding plan with an equine nutritionist or veterinarian, as the manufacturer directs. Mad Barn w-3 Oil is listed on this site in 5 L and 20 L; Mad Barn's other liquid fat product, OmegaPrime+, and Smart Earth Camelina oil are listed separately. - Source: Mad Barn Inc. product information for w-3 Oil (directions for use, active ingredients, cautions, storage), madbarn.ca, viewed September 2026.
