Mad Barn Biotin is a biotin supplement for horses, packaged by Mad Barn Inc. of Petersburg, Ontario, in a 1 kg pail. Active ingredient on the label: Biotin 0.5%, which is 20 mg in a 4 g serving. Excipient ingredients, as listed: distillers dried grains, dried yeast, dextrose, rice hulls, calcium carbonate. Directions for use, quoted from the label: "Consult with nutritionist or veterinarian prior to use. Top dress once daily on feed or ration." The body-weight table: under 200 kg, half a scoop (2 g); 200 to 500 kg, one scoop (4 g); over 500 kg, one and a half scoops (6 g). One scoop is 9 cc and holds 4 g. At the 4 g serving, a 1 kg pail is about 250 days of feeding; at 6 g, about 166 days. Warning / Caution, quoted in full from the label: "A scale should be used with all individual ingredients to ensure accurate dosing. For equine use only. Not for use in horses intended for food. Keep out of reach of children." and "This VHP may not be incorporated into a mixed feed." VHP means a veterinary health product notified to Health Canada; the label says it is to be top-dressed, not blended into a mixed feed.
