Details
Mad Barn Spirulina is a single-ingredient equine supplement: the label's active-ingredient panel lists "Spirulina 20 g" per 20 g serving and nothing else. It is a fine blue-green powder that is top-dressed on feed. This listing is the 1 kg (2.2 lb) pail (Mad Barn SKU 628055182207). How the label says to feed it. Directions for Use: "Top dress once daily on feed or ration." The feeding table on the label is by body weight: under 200 kg, half a scoop (10 g); 200 to 500 kg, one scoop (20 g); over 500 kg, two scoops (40 g). One scoop is 29.6 cc and holds 20 grams. The label adds: "The correct dosage of Spirulina depends on the condition of the horse, bodyweight and the reasons for feeding this ingredient. Start with the recommended serving size and increase up to double the amount in times of stress, allergies, and/or exercise." At one 20 g scoop a day, a 1 kg pail is about 50 servings. Warning / Caution, quoted from the label: "A scale should be used with all individual ingredients to ensure accurate dosing. For equine use only. Not for use in horses intended for food. Keep out of reach of children." Packaged by Mad Barn Inc., Petersburg, Ontario. Mad Barn also states that "these statements have not been evaluated by Health Canada or the FDA" and that the product "is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease." Where to buy Mad Barn Spirulina in Alberta: Pipestone Farm Supply lists it with free pickup at the store in Millet (between Leduc and Wetaskiwin, south of Edmonton) and shipping across Canada. Mad Barn's own website offers a free ration review by its nutritionists to set an inclusion rate for an individual horse; the pail's label carries the same feeding table as above.
