Mad Barn Chasteberry is a single-ingredient powdered supplement for horses, sold here in the 2 kg pail. Mad Barn's active ingredient table lists chasteberry fruit powder at 10 g per 10 g serving - the product is the fruit powder and nothing else. Directions for use, quoted from Mad Barn: "Consult with a nutritionist or veterinarian prior to use. Top dress once daily on feed or ration." The feeding table gives one scoop (5 g) for a horse under 200 kg, two scoops (10 g) from 200 to 500 kg and three scoops (15 g) over 500 kg; in imperial, under 440 lb, 440 to 1,100 lb and over 1,100 lb. One scoop is 9 cc and holds 5 grams. At the 200-500 kg rate of 10 g a day, this 2 kg pail is about 200 days of feeding. Mad Barn adds this note on dosing: "The correct dosage of chasteberry depends on the condition of the horse, bodyweight and the reasons for feeding this ingredient. Start with 5 grams per day and increase the dosage until the desired result is achieved. It is not recommended to exceed 20 grams per day, unless under the direction of a qualified equine nutritionist or veterinarian." Warning and caution, quoted from the manufacturer: "A scale should be used with all individual ingredients to ensure accurate dosing. For equine use only. Not for use in horses intended for food. Not for use in immature, pregnant or lactating animals. Keep out of reach of children." That third restriction rules the product out for young stock and for breeding mares.
