Details
Fostering is the hardest thing to get right in a lambing shed. A ewe with milk and a lamb that needs it ought to be an easy pairing and often is not, because the ewe knows by scent that the lamb is not hers. Skinning and jacketing works, but it takes time and a dead lamb to work with, and that is not always what is in front of you. This is a 200 ml aerosol containing a blend of aromatic oils, formulated to sit over the natural odour of both animals so the ewe is working from the same scent on her own lamb and on the one being introduced. It comes ready to use with nothing to mix, and it is applied to the lamb and the ewe together. The can meters a controlled amount rather than dumping product in one spot. Setup matters as much as the spray. Keep the pen small and quiet, put the ewe somewhere she cannot swing away, treat both animals, then give the pairing time before deciding it has failed. Shake the can, spray from a hand span away rather than up close, and cap it between uses. Read the label before use, and keep it away from feed and water.
