The ClawCut PRO is a small hoof trimming shear built for sheep, goats and alpacas. Overall length is 20 cm, right around 8 inches, with a 10 cm handle and a 5 cm blade, so it works in one hand and stays out of the way when you are straddling a ewe. The blades are carbon steel, heat treated so they bite into hard, dry hoof instead of skidding off it. That matters in this country, where a foot that has been standing on frozen ground all winter comes into the chute a lot harder than one off irrigated pasture. The plain non-serrated edge shears clean and leaves a smooth wall, which is why most people prefer it for tidy finish work and for younger stock with softer feet. A single-handed lock keeps the shear closed in your pocket or in the bottom of the tote tray. Trimming a hundred head is hard on your hands, so the light weight and short handle are worth more than they sound. Wipe the blades after a session in wet manure, keep them dry, and they will do years of spring foot work.
