On a bucket feeder the teat and its valve are the parts that wear out. Rubber goes soft and tacky after a season of hot washes, splits at the base where it stretches over the fitting, and a valve that has stopped sealing dribbles milk down the outside of the pail on the walk to the pen. Keeping a spare set in the milk room means a bucket never sits idle waiting on a part. This pack holds two sets, each one a teat together with the screw valve it fits. It is the replacement pair for the calf feeding pail, the acid-resistant plastic bucket that ships with a super teat and screw valve. The valve is the piece that passes through the wall of the pail and screws tight from the inside; the teat then pushes onto the outer end. Because you get both parts, the seat is renewed at the same time as the rubber, which is where slow leaks usually start. Fitment is worth checking before ordering. This set is for the calf pail, not for lamb buckets. The lamb feeders use a smaller yellow rubber teat seated on a separate metal one-way valve, and the two systems do not interchange. If you are unsure which you have, pull the teat off the bucket you own and compare the diameter of the barrel and the way the valve is retained from the inside. Separate the teat from the valve for washing rather than cleaning them as one unit, and let both dry properly before reassembly. Replace a teat once the rubber has gone thin or sticky rather than waiting for it to tear part way through a feed.
