A replacement teat that comes complete with the retaining ring and the mounting plate, so you get the whole assembly rather than just the rubber on its own. This is the type that mounts through the wall of a bucket or a bar feeder. The plate sits on one side, the ring clamps up from the other, and together they hold the teat square and seal it so milk does not weep down the outside of the bucket and freeze there. Buying the teat by itself does you no good if the old ring is cracked or the plate has gone missing, which is usually exactly what has happened by the time you go looking for a replacement. On a multi-teat bar feeder the whole assembly takes a beating. Calves butt it, chew on it and hang off it, and the plastic gets brittle after a couple of cold winters. Keep a couple of complete sets on hand so a failure is a five-minute fix at chore time instead of a feeder sitting out of service. Pull the assembly apart to wash it properly, because milk residue collects behind the plate where you cannot see it.
