Details

A natural rubber replacement teat in the traditional honey colour. It is a wear part, meant to be swapped out when the original goes hard, splits at the base, or has the tip chewed open. Rubber has a different feel to it than the synthetic teats. Softer, more give, closer to the real thing, which is part of why some people stick with it for calves that are slow to take a teat at all. The trade-off is that natural rubber does not love hard cold or long sun exposure, so it will stiffen sooner if it lives outside. Keep your spares in the house or the shop. The reason to change a teat rather than run it right out is flow. Once the opening has enlarged the calf drinks too fast and swallows air, which is a problem you do not need stacked on top of everything else during calving. Keep two or three spares in the drawer with the bottles. They cost almost nothing and they always fail on the day you have no time to deal with it. Rinse them in hot water after each feed and let them air dry.
