Kerbl Hand tool fencing plier
All-in-one fencing pliers combining a hammer face, wire cutters, gripping jaws and a staple puller in a single hand tool.
Details
Fencing pliers, the one tool that does most of what fence work asks of you. A hammer face for driving staples, cutting edges for wire, jaws for twisting and gripping, and a claw for pulling staples back out of a post. The reason a dedicated fencing plier beats a hammer and a pair of side cutters is that you are usually holding a wire under tension with one hand while standing in a ditch. One tool on your belt means one thing to drop, one thing to find again in the grass, and no walking back to the truck partway through the job. The staple puller alone justifies it, because pulling staples with a claw hammer wrecks the hammer and chews up the post besides. Fence in this country takes a beating. Frost heaves posts out, snow load pushes the top wire down, and cattle find whatever is weakest before you do. Every truck on the place should have a pair of these behind the seat along with a handful of staples and a short roll of wire. Keep a drop of oil on the pivot, because they live outside and they will seize up if nobody ever touches them.
