Details
The GasBuddex is the gas-fired version of Kerbl's dehorner. It comes with a 20 mm tip, a shade under 13/16 of an inch, plus two gas cartridges to get you started. Gas means no cord and no battery to charge or run flat on you. You are not tied to an outlet, so you can work calves wherever they happen to be: a back pen, a portable chute, a shed with no power run to it. Swap a spent cartridge and you are back at it in seconds, which is a different proposition from standing around waiting on a charger. The larger 20 mm tip suits bigger horn buds than the smaller tip on the battery unit. Disbudding is a job that pays to do early, while the bud is small and the calf is still easy to handle. Keep the tip clean between calves so it seats properly on the bud. For when to disbud or dehorn and how paste, hot-iron and Barnes scoop dehorners compare, see our guide Dehorning Calves: Paste, Hot Iron or Barnes Dehorner?
