A hip clamp, which is a steel frame with two rubberised pads that close over the pin bones and a screw crank to tighten it down. Hooked to a loader bucket, a hoist or a block and tackle, it lifts a cow that cannot get up on her own. The Profi is the heavy model, rated to 1,500 kg, about 3,300 pounds, so it covers full-grown beef cows and larger dairy animals rather than just small and medium frames. The rubberised clamping surfaces spread the load across the hips instead of concentrating it on bare steel, and the crank lets one person set it properly without a second pair of hands. A cow down after a hard calving or a slip on ice often just needs to get her feet under her and get some circulation back into her hind legs.
