Details
A 4 litre drencher, a little over a US gallon, consisting of the reservoir and an oesophageal probe. It puts a full feed straight into the calf when the calf will not or cannot suck on its own. The larger capacity means one fill for a big calf, or a second feed without walking back to the house for more. That sounds like a small thing until you are doing it at three in the morning at thirty-five below and the walk is two hundred yards each way. This is the tool you want hanging on the wall before calving starts, not the one you go hunting for at two a.m. A calf born into a February storm loses heat fast, and a weak calf that misses its colostrum is a calf you fight with for the next month. Learn to place the probe properly, over the tongue and down the left side, before you need to. Have somebody experienced walk you through it the first time. Rinse it out the moment you are finished, because dried milk in a probe is hard to remove and worse to leave in there.
