Details

Armoured tape is the heavy cloth-backed adhesive tape, thicker and tougher than the office-grade stuff, meant to be pulled off the roll by hand and stuck to something dirty. In a barn or a shop this is the roll you go through fastest. Patching a torn tarp before the wind finds the tear and takes the whole thing, bundling a wiring harness, wrapping a split hose until the proper part arrives, marking a valve so nobody touches it. The cloth backing means it tears square across without scissors and does not stretch out of shape when you pull it tight around something. Cold is what separates good tape from bad. Cheap tape goes stiff and quits sticking once the shop drops below freezing, and the adhesive lets go the first time the sun warms the panel it is stuck to. Keep a roll in the truck, one in the shop and one wherever the calving supplies live. If you are using it outside in winter, warm it in an inside pocket first. Every adhesive sticks better above freezing.
