Kerbl Adjustable nylon cattle hobble
Adjustable nylon hobble that buckles above both hocks to stop a cow kicking while she is being milked, treated or examined.
Details
A nylon anti-kick hobble that goes on above the hocks and adjusts to fit the animal. Two cuffs joined by an adjustable connector, so a cow can still stand and shift her weight but cannot swing a hind foot at you. Nylon webbing is easier on an animal than chain or bare rope, and it does not freeze up the same way, which is worth something in a January barn. The adjustability matters because you will not use it on just one cow. A fresh first-calf heifer and a mature cow need different settings, and being able to change it in seconds beats keeping two hobbles hanging on the wall. Most people buy one of these after a nervous heifer catches them once. After that it earns its keep any time you are treating a sore quarter, working on a hind foot, or letting a reluctant cow get used to being handled. Wash the mud off, let it dry and hang it up rather than leaving it on the floor where it gets stepped on and ground into the manure.
