A sorting pole is an extension of your arm and nothing more. Cattle move away from pressure, and a pole lets you apply that pressure from further off, which usually means the animal moves calmly and you stay out of the kick zone. The Hot-Shot version is vinyl covered, so it wipes clean and stands up to being outside, with a golf-style grip that does not turn in a wet glove. It is the kind of tool that ends up living permanently in the back of the truck. Care is simple.
