The DuraProd is the ergonomic handle in the Hot-Shot family, built around a sealed circuit and a snap-on, snap-off battery pack so changing cells does not mean fighting a cap in the dark. It runs on C batteries and takes any Hot-Shot shaft. This version comes in bulk packaging with batteries, which is how dealers and larger outfits tend to buy them. The sealed circuit is what matters in this part of the world. Prods live in wet snow, spring mud and washdown spray, and a handle that lets moisture in has a short career. The safety switch keeps it from firing by accident in a truck box or against a coat sleeve. Like any prod, this is a handling tool that belongs behind good gates, a paddle and a properly laid out alley, not in front of them. Pull the batteries if it will sit unused for months, wipe the contacts, and keep it inside over winter. If it starts running weak, try a fresh set of cells and clean contacts before assuming the motor has gone.
