Hot-Shot Flexible Shaft
A flexible replacement shaft for Hot-Shot prod handles, for reaching around rails and through crowded alleys without snapping.
Details
A flexible shaft bends rather than breaks, which is the whole argument for it. In a crowded alley or a curved tub, a shaft that will flex around a rail or take a squeeze between two animals lasts a great deal longer than a rigid one doing the same job. If you are going through shafts, this is usually the answer. It fits standard Hot-Shot handles with the usual shaft nut and insert, so switching between a flexible and a rigid shaft depending on the day takes a minute. Plenty of people keep one of each behind the truck seat. Cold makes anything more brittle, so give a flexible shaft a chance to warm up if it has been sitting in an unheated shed at minus thirty before you start bending it hard. Wipe it down after a run, hang it up rather than coiling it into a corner, and check the full length for splits before a big processing day. Once moisture gets inside a damaged shaft it does not come back.
