A traditional H brace needs a second post, a horizontal rail and a wire twitch that somebody has to come back and re-tension in two years. This kit does the bracing job with a length of cable and a Gripple joiner instead, and Gripple states it installs in under a minute. The GPAK4 contains 4.0 mm galvanized cable at a standard 5 m length, the 16.5 ft in the name, along with a Gripple Plus Large joiner, a crimped wire loop and a release key. It carries a maximum working load of 1,320 lb. Installation is straightforward: loop the crimped end around your anchor point, feed the wire through one channel of the joiner, bring it back through the opposite channel, and tension with a Gripple tensioning tool. The detail worth appreciating on a Prairie fence line is that it can be re-tensioned repeatedly without pulling anything apart. Frost heave moves posts, and a brace you can snug back up in a minute the following spring is a brace that keeps doing its job. It is also a great deal lighter to pack along a fence line than turnbuckles, U-bolts and helical anchors.
