DVL Scarlet Oil Pump Spray 250ml
250 mL pump spray of scarlet oil wound dressing, the traditional red dressing for cuts, scrapes and rope burns.
Details
Scarlet oil is one of the old standbys, and the reason it is still on shelves is that a pump spray dressing is genuinely easier than an ointment when the animal does not want to be touched. You can treat a wound on a leg, a shoulder or a hind quarter from arm's length instead of holding a hand on it. The distinctive red colour is useful in itself. You can see at a glance where you have treated and where you have missed, which matters on a hairy animal and on a wound you are going to be dressing daily for a while. As with any dressing, cleaning does most of the work. Flush the wound properly first. A dressing sprayed over packed dirt is decoration. Do not use it as a reason to avoid looking at a wound properly. Anything deep, gaping, over a joint or tendon, punctured, or hot and swollen after a few days needs your veterinarian rather than another application. Note also that a strongly coloured dressing stains hide, hands and clothes, and takes a while to grow out. Follow the label for species, directions and any withdrawal information, keep the pump clear by wiping the nozzle after use, and store it out of the sun. Reassess a treated wound every day rather than spraying once and forgetting it.
