DVL Red udder ointment 400g
400 g of the traditional red udder ointment, a warming emollient for udders that need rubbing out as well as softening.
Details
This is the traditional red ointment rather than a plain balm, and the difference is the mild warming feel it has when it is rubbed in. That is why people reach for it on a congested or edematous udder after calving, where the massage matters as much as the ointment, and where the warmth is part of the routine. Use it as the label directs, and understand that most of the benefit in that situation comes from the rubbing and the frequency, not from any single application. A heifer with a tight, swollen udder after calving needs milking out regularly and handling repeatedly; the ointment makes that handling tolerable for her and for you. Be honest about the limits. This is an emollient. It is not a mastitis treatment and it does not treat infection. A quarter that is hot, hard and painful, or milk that has gone off in colour or consistency, is mastitis until your veterinarian says otherwise, and no amount of ointment substitutes for that. The colour stains hands, clothes and hide. Wear gloves if you care. Scoop with clean hands so a long-lived tub does not turn into a source of contamination. Follow the label for species, directions and any milk withdrawal statement, and keep the tub from freezing.
