Poul-Vite is a soluble vitamin and electrolyte powder you mix into drinking water for birds going through something stressful — chicks the first few days after arriving, a flock through a heat spell, birds moved or handled, or a pen coming off a knock. Under stress birds eat less but keep drinking, so water is the reliable way to get support into them when the feeder is being ignored. Mix it fresh in clean drinkers at the label rate. Vitamins in solution do not last: they degrade with light, warmth and time, and a medicator line left sitting for two days grows a slime that will put birds off the water entirely. Make up what the flock will drink in a day, dump and rinse the drinkers before the next batch, and put it somewhere shaded if the birds are outside. This is supportive nutrition, not a treatment. It helps birds hold condition through a rough patch; it does not treat coccidiosis, respiratory disease or anything else infectious. If you have birds dying, birds with laboured breathing, or a flock that goes off feed and does not come back, get a diagnosis rather than adding more product to the water. The 100 g size suits a small flock or a single stressful event. Keep the container closed and dry — the powder cakes badly once it takes up moisture.
