Vitamins A, D and E are the fat-soluble ones, and they are the ones that get thin in a Prairie winter. Green growing feed is where A and E come from, and by February a cow that has been on weathered hay for four months has been drawing on stores rather than intake. D comes from sunlight on skin, which is in short supply for housed animals. That is the honest case for a supplement like this: covering a known seasonal gap. A liquid is easy to dose to an individual and easy to add where a mineral program is not reaching the animals you are worried about. The important caution with fat-soluble vitamins is that they accumulate. Unlike the water-soluble ones, excess does not simply pass out, and A and D in particular have real toxicity at high intakes. That matters because most operations are already feeding a fortified mineral, and adding a supplement on top without accounting for it is how animals get too much. Add up what they are already getting before you start. Follow the label for species, dose and route. Store it capped, cool and out of the light, since these vitamins degrade with heat and sunlight.
