The short answer
Buy Ortho Home Defense Max Perimeter & Indoor Insect Control, a ready-to-use 1 L spray bottle with permethrin. Inside, spot-treat baseboards, under sinks and basement corners for ants, roaches, spiders, crickets, silverfish, carpet beetles and fleas. Outside, it is for ants on the exterior surfaces of buildings. For cracks, add Ortho Bug B Gon Diatom, our top seller for home insects, a 340 g can of diatomaceous earth. Keep people and pets out until the spray is fully dry, and do not spray it directly on them.
We keep this on hand, so it's ready to go. In-stock orders can ship as soon as the same day, and depending on where you are, your parcel can arrive in as little as 1 to 2 business days once it's on the road. Pickup in Millet, Alberta is free, and shipping is free on orders over $199.99 to most addresses.
Ortho Bug B Gon Diatom lists ants, cockroaches, crickets, earwigs, fleas and silverfish. Use the extension tube to lightly coat cracks, behind appliances and along baseboards, or spray it on insects directly. It takes a few days to work and you can reapply if needed. Avoid breathing the dust.

Ortho says its microscopic particles cut through an insect's outer shell and the powder absorbs fats from that shell, so the insect dries out and dies. It can be used indoors and on patios, decks and around garbage areas.

Ortho Home Defense Max lists spiders, and Ortho gives basements and garages as spots to treat: basement corners and visible cracks, and around the garage door and windows. Spray lightly from 20 to 25 cm away, open windows and doors afterward, and test a hidden spot first for staining.
